102-year-old WWII veteran John Eskdale attended the opening of the Cardiff Field of Remembrance.
Mr Eskdale survived the sinking of HMS Charybdis in 1943, where over 400 crew members died.
Around 5,000 tributes have been planted in the grounds of Cardiff Castle.
The memorial installation is open to the public daily until 17 November.
