Scillonian III completed its final 37-nautical-mile voyage from St Mary's to Penzance after 49 years.
The ship carried passengers, locals and ornithologists across Atlantic swells more than 10,000 times.
Affectionately nicknamed the 'vomit comet', the vessel was known for rolling heavily in rough weather.
A replacement ship, Scillonian IV, will take over the route in March with modern anti-roll technology.
